Best Time to Visit from Gandhidham / Kutch
The Char Dham temples are open only between May and November each year. They close for winter snowfall and reopen on Akshaya Tritiya (April–May). From Gandhidham, we recommend two windows.
- May–June: Most popular. All temples open, road conditions good, pleasant 5–20°C. Book train tickets and our package at least 45–60 days in advance.
- September–October: Our personal favourite. Post-monsoon skies are crystal clear, crowds are lighter, and the Himalayan scenery is at its most spectacular. Excellent for families with senior members who prefer a calmer pace.
- Avoid July–August: Heavy monsoon rains cause frequent landslides on mountain roads. We do not run batches during this period for safety reasons.
September–October is the hidden gem of the Char Dham calendar. The crowds have cleared, the mountains are freshly washed by monsoon rain, and every view feels like a painting. If you have flexibility in your dates, choose this window.
Top Things to Do at the Char Dhams
- Yamunotri (3,293m): Source of the Yamuna. A 6-km trek from Janki Chatti leads to the temple and the hot springs where devotees cook rice in the boiling water as an offering.
- Gangotri (3,415m): Source of the Ganga. Road-accessible temple town with stunning glacier views and the sacred Bhagirathi river.
- Kedarnath (3,583m): The most dramatic of the four. A 16-km trek from Gaurikund or helicopter from Phata leads to the ancient Shiva shrine. Evening aarti here is unlike anything else.
- Badrinath (3,133m): Dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Road-accessible, highly visited, and surrounded by the Neelkanth peak. Mana village nearby is the last Indian village before the Tibet border.
- Ganga Snan at Haridwar: Most packages begin and end with a ritual dip at Har Ki Pauri — the spiritual bookend to the entire yatra.
A Typical 14-Night Itinerary from Gandhidham
Days 1–2: Train from Gandhidham to Haridwar (Kutch Express, 22–24 hours). Check in, Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri. Overnight Haridwar for acclimatisation.
Days 3–4: Drive to Barkot/Uttarkashi via Rishikesh. Overnight en route. Continue to Janki Chatti. Trek to Yamunotri temple and back (6 km each way). Overnight Barkot.
Days 5–6: Drive to Gangotri via Uttarkashi. Temple visit and Ganga darshan. Overnight Gangotri/Harsil. Return drive towards Guptkashi.
Days 7–8: Arrive Gaurikund. Trek to Kedarnath (16 km) or take helicopter/pony for those who need it. Evening aarti at Kedarnath. Overnight at the shrine. Trek back the next morning.
Days 9–10: Drive to Badrinath via Joshimath. Temple visit, Mana village trip. Tapt Kund hot spring dip. Overnight Badrinath.
Days 11–12: Return drive to Haridwar over two days with rest stops. Final Ganga snan. Shopping for puja items and prasad.
Days 13–14: Board return Kutch Express to Gandhidham. Arrive home.
